Travelers can now create a more satisfying
vacation experience thanks to Kango , a
search and discovery application that aggregates and organizes the myriad
of the internets travel community and review sites into one place. The new
venture, founded by Yen Lee, former general manager of Yahoo! Travel, today
announced it received a Series A round of funding of $4 million from Shasta
Ventures earlier this year, and the opening of the site to its first beta
users.

According to a 2006 survey commissioned by MSN and conducted by Harris
Interactive#174;, approximately three-quarters of U.S. adult respondents who
have ever taken a vacation say they visit three or more Web sites when
researching and/or booking their vacation plans. “The fact that three out
of four vacationers spread their online research across multiple Web sites
– with some visiting 10 or more — points to the huge timesaving benefits
that a truly full-featured online travel planning site can deliver,” said
Jim Quilty, vice president of travel and tourism at Harris Interactive.

As a travel review
aggregator , Kango has aggregated and analyzed more than 20 million
traveler opinions from more than 1,000 sites across the Web. The service
uses natural language analysis and travel-specific term mapping to deliver
reliable, relevant recommendations based on consumers exact requirements
and preferences. This means users can now include subjective criteria like
romantic or relaxing, or objective criteria like price and internet
access and get relevant results. For instance, Kango users looking for a
romantic getaway in San Francisco will get different hotel and
activity results than those looking for a family friendly vacation in San Francisco . Kango also understands
consumers intent regardless of the terminology they use, so good for
kids is interpreted the same way as child friendly or family vacation.
The result is a travel search application that helps travelers discover new
travel choices and make better decisions.

Highlights and Key Issues * Evidence is mounting that Spain is set for a rocky ride because of the property crisis. We expect GDP growth of 2.3% this year - in line with the Bank of Spain - and for the housing market woes to weigh further on growth in 2009. Spains newly elected Socialist government has pledged to approve a euro22bn package of tax rebates and employment programmes to stave off the risk of recession. The government is in a good fiscal position and can afford to pass a large stimulus. * A further blow to consumer spending could come from higher inflation. CPI inflation rose to 4.5% in March, pushed by high energy and food prices. However, as demand moderates and the effect of energy prices slips out of the calculation we expect inflation to drop back in H2. However, it is likely to remain above 3%.
Who are they? The perennial underachievers, but the continuing success of Spains club sides must be represented at one of the major international competitions sooner or later. Qualifying: The Spaniards qualified in typically serene circumstances, from a group containing Austria and Israel. Coach: Jose Antonio Camacho. The former Real Madrid defender has been popular with the Spanish public, but it is time Camacho delivered.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The Internet presents both opportunities and challenges for marketers of healthcare products. An advocate for the medium argues for its increasing value in a comprehensive media mix, offers advice on how to make programs more productive, and cautions on Internet pitfalls. A similar, dramatic increase is occurring in Internet advertising. For all industries, including pharmaceuticals, total 1997 online revenues reached $1 billion. The Internet Advertising Bureau projects this figure rising to $2 billion in 1998, $5 billion in the year 2000, and $9 billion by 2002.

Tree planting is in the bag at IKEA, which is now charging a nickel per plastic bag given to customers to carry purchases from its stores. The goal is to get people to use reusable bags and cut down on plastic bag waste. Proceeds from the campaign of up to $1.75 million will go to AMERICAN FORESTS to plant trees to restore forests and offset C[O.sub.2] emissions. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED]
Editor: Now is the time to plant a tree. When the fires are out, and ash in our hair and tears in our eyes, we must look to the future. Before the rains and mudslides, to prevent homes from sliding into oblivion, plant a tree. That tree on the side of the hill may just save a home, your home.

Inflation fails to subside in 2006H1 * Retail sales picked up in May, growing 1.3% year-on-year. As expected with confidence remaining volatile over the last few months and only rising slightly in June, retail sales have been patchy, rising by just 0.4% in Q1 after being flat in Q4. We expect a further weakening in retail sales growth, in line with our forecast for an overall weakening in household expenditure in H2 2006. * The trade deficit widened yet again in April to EUR 6.88bn, a 5.5% rise on the year, after already reaching 8.9% of GDP in Q1. While this figure is necessarily high given recent developments in oil prices, it also does hint at underlying structural problems. A recovery in the Eurozone, together with a modest depreciation of the EUR from its recent highs, may bring some respite to the burgeoning deficit, but Spain continues to lose market share in intra-Eurozone trade. With rapidly rising unit labour costs the trade deficit is unlikely to be reduced, while the cumulative effects of sustained higher inflation will ultimately also increase the burden of adjustment.

internet business training

I. INTRODUCTION This study empirically examines person-to-person transactions within the Internet market known as eBay. In this virtual market of unseen participants and products, buyers and sellers face the risks of repudiation, as the counter party may deny the agreement after the fact. Buyers assume risks associated with lack of seller integrity and asymmetric information about the particular product, as the buyer is typically required to send payment before the seller ships the product. In addition, for many eBay transactions, the cost of enforcing a contract is high relative to the transactions value, resulting in a practical absence of legal enforcement. (2) By providing a history of trade execution information, eBay benefits market participants by reducing information asymmetries while achieving substantial transaction cost economies. Market participants relate personal experiences, which eBay uses to calculate a numerical reputation measure for each user. Market participants, in turn, can use this reputation measure to assess counter party risk and adjust bidding behavior accordingly.
Not a day goes by without yet another article extolling the virtues of the Internet. An estimated 30 million worldwide users to date and more logging on every day. To the small business owner, the real question is, Where does the hype end and the reality begin? Is the Internet really a viable proposition for the traditional small business, normally constrained by lack of time, staff and money? 10 questions to ask yourself The best way to determine whether or not the Internet makes sense for your business is to apply a simple “yes” or “no” answer to 10 important marketing questions: 1. Do my clients require specific product information before they can buy my product/service? 2. Do I spend a majority of my time selling the benefits of my product only to be asked, “Can you send me more information?” 3. Is my long-distance phone bill more than $100 per month? 4. Have I lost business as a result of playing phone tag with a potential customer because I was unable to “sieze the moment?” 5. Would a new employee handling sales paperwork free me to increase my companys revenues? 6. Is there an international market for my product? 7. Does my product have a story to tell? 8. Am I spending more than 20 percent of every dollar I make on marketing-related expenses? 9. Would instant customer feedback benefit my business? 10. Would the ability to capture orders 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, help my business? If you answered “yes” to just one of these questions, you should at least explore the possibilities that Internet commerce can offer. If you answered “yes” to five or more, you should dedicate some serious time and resources to finding out how the Internet actually works (and how it can work for you). If you answered “yes” to eight or more of the questions, you need a fast-track education about the Internet before your competitors claim the medium for themselves. The smart small business owner will make plans to explore the Internet, find out what the Web can deliver and then formulate a strategy to exploit it. As Jeff Vick, Marketing Specialist at Creative Video explains, “The Internet will do to business in the 21st century what the telephone did to business in the 20th century.” The Web — How does it work? According to Vick, the Internet works well as a commercial sales tool for businesses that need to exchange information in order to specify a particular products size, color, model, price, etc. Multiple orders can be booked, billed and fulfilled through a simple response mechanism included on an Internet site. Much of this information can be communicated through the Web. While it is actually only one portion of the Internet, the Web serves as an extensive reference library that can provide any level of additional information about a particular subject, issue, item or product. As in a spiders web configuration, the Web provides an ever-increasing source of interlocking information about the subject in question. Simply point and click and you can dive deeper into additional layers of information. The Web also has certain features that make it ideal for marketing. It can display pictures and massive amounts of text about your product as well as send and receive order information while at the same time generating a receipt. If your product requires a lengthy explanation in order to communicate its benefits, the Web is the place to do it. Customers and prospects can view that information at their own pace — in many instances, via sophisticated video and audio commercials. Since were talking digital information here, there is very little difference between one word and one thousand words. And if you feel that youre spending too much time processing paperwork and not enough time selling, a well-designed Web page may be one of the potential keys to your businesses future success. How important is e-mail? An important byproduct of the Internet is e-mail, or electronic mail. Once you learn to use this valuable tool, youll wonder how you ever got along without it. Forget about what time it is, or whether its “worth a call” — with e-mail, it costs no more to send a message to Sydney that it does to Syracuse (the actual cost is about $1.00 an hour). And time zones become irrelevant as well. You and the recipient can view the messages at your convenience, thereby eliminating the dreaded game of telephone tag. So get serious! How does the smart business operator approach the formidable and intimidating task of investigating the Net? First, gather your thoughts as to what you would like your Web site to accomplish. Imagine that your customer can ask you anything he/she wants to know about your company and product — anything from product price to employee birthdays — and in no particular order. Analyze each possible scenario and list all the information relevant to it. Then, and only then, begin to organize the scenarios into a flow chart. Once you have the flow chart polished, try to find flaws in it. If your customer is browsing through the pricing section of your flow chart, will he/she be more interested in going to shipping next or reading your companys mission statement? After you feel that youve developed a solid grasp of the different portions of the business that youd like to present to your clientele, you are now ready to interview potential agencies who are skilled in creating Web pages. According to Vick, there are 3 questions you should ask a potential Web page creator: 1. Have you done this before? 2. Who have you done this for? 3. May I call them? While creating some Web pages may require the skills of a computer Ph.D., most will not, and there are competent companies in most major markets capable of accomplishing the task in a cost-effective fashion. Prices for creating a simple Web site can range from a low of $2,500 to high of $20,000. In fact, some of the Fortune 500 marketers have created sophisticated and complex Web pages that can literally run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and in some cases, the millions. But for the average small business, the investment will probably be in the $5,000 to $10,000 range. And remember, you must keep your Web site content fresh, or your prospects will have no reason to come back. Seeing your own World Wide Web site up and running on the Internet can be a proud moment for any business owner. It also can mean the start of a whole new way of doing business. It has the potential to increase productivity by extending operating time to a full 24 hours a day. But this will only happen if your business really needs this technology and can use it effectively. Evaluate your situation honestly. If its right for you, acquire it. If its not, save the money. And if you want to see what its all about, contact a Web creator and ask to see a demonstration. One picture is really worth 1,000 words. Alf Nucifora is an Atlanta based marketing consultant. He may be contacted by e-mail zubicon
Many of the old rules and limitations no longer apply to this new form of marketing, which seeks to talk with, rather than at, the reader. At last count, the Internet links some 46,318 computer networks at sites in 91 countries worldwide. More than half (27,614) the networks are in the United States; not surprisingly, some 20% of these are in California. According to the Internet Domain Survey, conducted in January 1995 by Net Wizards, some 4,852,000 host computers were linked to the Internet. The greatest percentage of these computers were being used in business (27%) and education (23%). The Internet Society estimates an average of 10 users per host. Total users on the net are approaching 50 million, with another million or so getting connected monthly.

Fire-Lite Alarms offers a complete line of addressable fire alarm panels, which comprises the MS-9200, MS-9600 and the MS-9200UD. The panels feature advanced autoprogramming capabilities, which reduce installation time and overall cost. The panels allow an entire system to be autoprogrammed with the touch of a button. They include automatic detector test capability, drift compensation and maintenance alert. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED]
Proposed code changes should help improve fire alarm system design. Its not uncommon to hear fire alarm system owners complain about unwanted alarms, audibility problems, or acceptance test requirements-problems that many in the industry think start with the initial system design or installation. These complaints havent gone unheeded. In fact, the various technical committees responsible for developing NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code, are currently considering several proposals and comments that address these concerns. Among these are Proposal 72-99, which was submitted in an attempt to improve the quality of fire alarm system design. Proposal 72-99 would require that all fire alarm systems be designed by registered fire protection engineers or by National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technology (NICET) LEVEL III-certified technicians.

vending machines

Dairy companies are getting in on the campaign to improve childrens nutrition by exploiting sales via vending machines. At a dairy industry seminar hosted by The Dairy Council last week, delegates heard that a dairy product vending machine pilot project in South Wales had generated profits. The BBC childrens soap, Grange Hill, is set to feature a dairy product vending machine between April and November 2006.
Beverages in the machines must be 100% juice, milk, or water and cannot contain artificial colors or sweeteners.
If you think of vending machines simply as dispensers of soft drinks, snack foods, and items such as combs and painkillers, Kent Savage wants you to think again.Savage is president of Cincinnati-based Vertex Technologies, Inc., and he sees vending machines as miniature retail stores for sales and distribution of everything from cameras and blue jeans to tools and manufacturing equipment. The skys the limit, he says.Since that trip, Savages company has been developing vending machines for both the industrial and retail markets. Businesses can benefit from vending machines because they distribute or sell items without sales workers having to be present.

vacation home Yellowstone

FEAR of exploitation and degradation is what inspired Congress in 1872 to set aside 2.2 million acres in three states to preserve the unique volcanic region known as Yellowstone as the worlds first national park. President Ulysses S. Grant signed the measure declaring that the sensitive area, with its roaring geysers and bubbling mud, would forever be set apart “for the benefit and enjoyment of the people.” Sadly, the short shrift given to Yellowstone, that grand old patriarch of parks, is symptomatic of a neglectful policy being applied to our national treasures across the board. At a time of war and tax cuts and huge deficits, something has to give. And under a spending bill recently approved by the House, a big loser is clearly the nations parks, already woefully underfunded.
In 2004, the EMS team identified its first large-scale initiative–solid waste management. Some of the guidelines introduced include: * Recycling opportunities for visitors. There are currently 63 recycling bins in the park, and it is estimated that there has been a 50 percent increase in the amount of commodities collected in the park, particularly plastics. * Recycling propane cylinders. Through a partnership with Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone and Grand Teton concessionaires, the Yellowstone Park Foundation and various private entities, there is now a program of collecting and recycling propane cylinders in the greater Yellowstone area. The Propane Bottle Recycler (PBR), a mobile propane recycling unit, is now being used to recycle the estimated 3,000, one-pound propane cylinders discarded in the park each year.

Conventional Fire Alarms

Fire chiefs hailed the success of a smoke alarm scheme that saved the life of a Tyneside pensioner. Alice McKenna, 80, collapsed unconscious upstairs in her home in Ryton, Gateshead, on Tuesday night after switching on a saucepan in the kitchen. Graeme Hurst, Community Safety Officer at Swalwell Fire Station, said: This would probably have been a fatality if there had not been a smoke alarm to alert the neighbour. We encourage everyone to get their own alarm.
There are two areas of major concern over the new decision to send only one fire engine in future in response to daytime automatic fire alarms in West Yorkshire. The first worry is about the adequacy of this fire cover and the second has to be about the undemocratic way in which the change has been imposed upon us. But the current situation, where one engine and four firefighters are sent where three engines were sent before is hardly one likely to fill the public with confidence.

Paul Hoffman, a deputy assistant secretary with the Department of the Interior, is looking to take Yellowstone Park off the list of “endangered cultural sites” kept by the United Nations. Yellowstone was placed on the list in 1995 when the area was threatened by a proposed New World gold mine. Hoffman said the gold threat is now gone, therefore the distinction is no longer needed.

Cabinet choices Cabinets usually devour the bulk of a budget during a kitchen remodel. Because they are a major investment, youll need to sort through the available options and make choices with confidence. Heres how: - If existing cabinets are of good quality, are in excellent working condition and the layout functions well, the most affordable option is to freshen them up by restaining or painting. Another alternative, refacing, involves installing a new veneer on the exterior of the cabinet box and replacing the doors and drawer fronts, and should be handled by a professional.

Byline: By Sara Wallis Claims that Newcastle United fans heaped disgrace on the club during their latest UEFA Cup game were dismissed today as a Spanish slur. Media reports on the Spanish island of Majorca branded the Toon followers hooligans and they ran through the streets causing mayhem. But Northumbria Police have confirmed that out of the 2,500 Newcastle United supporters, there were only three arrests, all relating to one incident.
Majorca is now officially the most popular holiday destination. Periodontal Disease Linked to Total Body Health Through DNA LAS VEGAS — A new test is available that allows dentists and patients to combat gum disease. The test is called DNA-PCR and is administered at Dr. Azimis downtown Las Vegas dental office. Will McCains teeth create voter uncertainty like Nixons five oclock shadow? BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ — While most of the focus in the upcoming Presidential debates will be about the words that come out of the candidates mouths, many voters may instead be paying attention to whats IN their mouths — namely their teeth and the quality of their smile. Prominent Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist Dr. Kevin Sands says that especially in the debates, a healthy, clean smile can be a candidates best running mate. And in the case of this Presidential election, Senator Barack Obama beats Senator John McCain by a landslide. In this American Idol age, there is no question that Senator Obama and his mega-watt smile will appeal more to voters who base their decisions on style, says Sands from his Beverly Hills office. By its very nature the definition of contemporary furniture is elusive. The furniture of the times reflects the moods and tastes of the buyers. Currently the theme is eclectic — allowing for a combination of materials in a piece or a collection of styles within a room. The show, which took place at Chicagos Merchandise Mart last October, was open to both interior designers and end users. As a reflection of the moods and tastes of the times, contemporary furniture demands interaction between the designers who build it, the interior designers who specify it and the consumers who choose it, said David Drury, director of marketing, Chicago Design Show, Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. The first annual event drew more than 10,000 attendees including interior designers, retail buyers, specifiers and consumers from 46 states and 26 countries.

Leasing The Good Life From the outside, Antique Contemporary Leasings brick warehouse on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., offers few clues to the nature of the business. Its only distinguishing features are its bright-red double doors and the finely carved and finished sign directly above them. This is, in short, not your typical rental-furniture outlet. Antique Contemporary Leasing is, rather, what Leezee Porter, its founder and owner, calls the first upscale rental-furniture company in the country. Its targeted customers are diplomats, corporate executives, government officials, and developers building and showing expensive houses. Many of those people expect to spend only a brief time in Washington before their career take them elsewhere, and, Porter says, her company tries to “create a comfortable environment” for “someone who wants to live a transient life that doesnt seem so transient.”

Whats old is new again. Remember that phrase when selecting hotel room furniture. Designers are taking their cue from the past when it comes to creating furniture for the present, according to executives at several casegoods manufacturers and suppliers. Words such as contemporary and modern come into play, but the slant is toward the future in a retro kind of way. Thats all well and good, but how does that cerebral thought process translate when applied to physical matter? Think about it for a minute, and images of rounded edges, metal accessories and clean lines come to mind, a sort of less-is-more simplicity. Now youve got the picture.

vending machines

Vending Machine Cuisine William R. (Bill) Farhat was a restaurateur in Grand Rapids when some representatives of vending companies asked him if he could make sandwiches for their machines. With a restaurant kitchen, it really wasnt possible, Farhat recalls. But he asked the vendors if preparing food was a problem for them.

Storytelling in Yellowstone MSC04 2820, 1 University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM 87131-0001
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — The parks popular west entrance is opening to snowmobiles and snowcoaches for the first time this winter, although some routes remain closed due to a lack of snow, park officials said Friday. The West Yellowstone, Mont., entrance is scheduled to open Saturday, park spokeswoman Cheryl Matthews said. Snowmobiles and snowcoaches will be allowed on roads between the west entrance and Old Faithful, Madison to Norris and Norris to Canyon. The road from Mammoth to Norris continues to have bare spots and will remain closed to snowmobiles, although snowcoaches are allowed, Matthews said.

BRITS have always had a soft spot for Majorca. The largest of the Balearics has rarely been knocked off the top spot in the holiday chart since we discovered it as a package destination in the 1960s. Forty years on, this charming island has become a big hit with the stars too. Celebrities such as Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones have villa hideaways there. Although its best known for its sand and sea holidays, Majorca has so much to offer at this time of year too. With temperatures at a comfortable 50-60F its a perfect time for a leisurely walk in the islands rugged mountains or for exploring the quiet roads in a hire car.

The first benefit of Palma that became obvious is how accessible it is from England - a mere two-hour flight. And, best of all, the airport is a simple 15-minute drive away from the city. So no gruelling transfers - in fact we had a driver waiting at the airport to whisk us to the hotel. It was, we agreed, an excellent start.

Trees were planted in a North East celebration of 90 years of the womens institute in the UK. Secretary Pat Burn said: We are delighted to have been awarded a community chest grant from Sunderland City Council and have chosen two Beech trees to enhance the village green.
Arbor Day was founded nationwide in the 1800s.
Tree planting is in the bag at IKEA, which is now charging a nickel per plastic bag given to customers to carry purchases from its stores. The goal is to get people to use reusable bags and cut down on plastic bag waste. internet business training

A review of the marketing literature in both the traditional (offline) and new era (online) environments was undertaken to compare and contrast marketings role in both types of organisation. Insights derived from this review formed the basis for a series of in-depth interviews with leading marketing professionals in Ireland. The paper draws conclusions regarding the overall effect of the Internet on marketing. In particular it notes that, while marketing has evolved into an all-encompassing role in the organisation, the marketer remains the focal actor. The paper looks to a future with two distinct kinds of marketer and highlights the importance of retaining the traditional commitments of marketing practice. The Internet is a significant global medium for communications, content and commerce. It is a powerful tool for building relationships with all of a companys communication targets.
